ASTM A106 standard specifications

ASTM A106 is the standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe applied for high temperature services.

Dimensions Schedule Range

The S355 is a low carbon grade. S355J2H Pipe has a chemical composition of 0.22% of carbon, 0.55% of silicon, 1.6% manganese, 0.03% of phosphorus and sulfur. The A335 P11 Chrome Pipe is made up of a chromium molybdenum alloy. The p11 steel pipe material contains other elements such as manganese and carbon in select quantities as well. P11 Material Specification

ASTM A335 P9 Seamless Pipe is one of the chromium molybdenum alloy pipes. This kind of material is used for high temperature and pressure applications. The thermal expansion rate of this material is considerably less so that it does not lose its form or shape under high temperatures. ASME SA 335 Grade P9 Alloy Steel Pipes are mostly used in the power generation industries and in petrochemical industries. The ASTM A335 P9 Pipe standards and schedules differ according to the need of the application. There is a 9% chromium and 1% molybdenum in the A335 P9 Chrome Pipe composition. The P9 steel pipe material also contains manganese, silicon, carbon and phosphorus in its composition. The addition of these materials makes the material stronger with high yield strength and tensile strength. The oxidation reduction is highly added due to the high chromium content.

These pipes are therefore highly resistant in high temperature and corrosive environments. The astm a335 gr P9 seamless pipe has less absolute roughness and is therefore very accurate in dimensions. The sizes of the a335 gr P9 alloy pipe range from ½ inches and up under average requirements. The sa 335 gr P9 alloy steel pipe schedules range from 20 to XXH and more. Depending on the application requirement for pressure containment, the pressure classes differ as well. Also the P9 metal pipe material could be formed under fully annealed or normalized and tempered conditions. The sa335 P9 seamless pipe dimensions make it suitable for sensitive applications that require accurate calculation. The resistance to fluid flow is less inside the seamless pipes because of the less frictional inner surface. The astm a335 grade P9 welded pipe can be used to ensure stronger connection between pipes in a piping system. These pipes could also be used as replacements for the other types of A335 pipes when application permits.

ASTM a106 grade A has the lowest strength of the three grades but can still be useful for many applications. A106 grade A is useful because many clients will not need a pipe that is that heavy like grade B and C so they will choose grade A because it is affordable but offers excellent quality when dealing with transporting high-temperature gases or fluids. ASTM a106 grade A can be cut or shaped to a client’s request which will be convenient for the client when using the pipe for the application needed. Grade A has the lowest amount of carbon percentage which is usually around 0.25%. This shows how the strength of the pipe is lower than the other grades.
